Well Done is Better Than Well Said

Hi, I’m Claire Richards. I had a severe TBI from a car accident in August 2016. I had just graduated college with two majors and a minor. I also played collegiate soccer. Now I have aphasia.

I went to three different hospitals over five months and after that I could finally go home. I was in a wheelchair and couldn’t really talk but after ten years and three different states, I’m doing so much better now. I can talk and I’m not in a wheelchair. I’m in the work re-entry program at Barrow’s Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation and they’re helping me find a job. I also participate in a group called Aphasia Connections. We all understand what it’s like to have aphasia. We’re like a family.

If you’re struggling with aphasia, just know that there’s a family out there for you too. You just have to look for it! My advice is to keep moving forward and living your life. Things will get better.
