The Impact of Aphasia on Friendship, Love, and Community

Aphasia is a condition that affects how a person can communicate — but it doesn’t end there.

In early 2023, we surveyed more than 600 people with aphasia to learn more about how aphasia affects their lives. The results reveal a somber picture of declining relationships and disrupted independence.

It all starts with communication.

Miscommunications are to blame for disruptions in relationships around the world every minute of every day. But what happens when a person loses communication abilities due to aphasia? When the words are hard to find, communication can cease entirely.
